I ran a band of gold to mark where the upper weather yields to the deeper water.
In Meridian Divide I built the gravity from a single horizontal gesture: a thick band of gold cutting across cobalt, ultramarine, and teal. Above the band, I swirled gold and blue together like weather gathering at altitude. Below, I cascaded the color downward in vertical drips, blues and teals pulled by gravity with scattered gold droplets falling toward the lower edge.
The gold band operates as both horizon and meridian. It marks the line where the piece's upper turbulence yields to its deeper current beneath. The eye crosses it the way light crosses the surface of water.
Real metallic gold carries genuine reflectivity. The piece shifts as light moves through a room. The gold band appears lit from within at some angles and softer at others. That living quality is part of what separates a physical original from any reproduction.
